RCOTM: DECEMBER 2017
December's Record Collector of the Month comes from Nashville musician Cory Taylor Cox.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I was born in the year 1985 in my very favorite city: Memphis, TN. I grew up in Mississippi and went to college in the Alabama Shoals and now live in Nashville. I work for Houzz, which is a phone app and website about home decor and improvement. I also promote shows, manage bands, and put out records under my label Sons of Old Town Collective. When I'm not playing rock and roll myself and horsing around with the cool dudes who are my bandmates, my wife and I enjoy trying new restaurants and bars, going to shows, taking our dog Georgia to the park (we rescued her 3 years ago and she the most magnificent creature on the planet), and we also like to bake, (currently snacking on a matcha rice krispy treat. My father instilled in me a deep passion for music and I love music culture and community. I try to plug into that community anywhere I can, in previous cities that I've lived in, connecting with musicians and other music lovers, whether through live shows or record collecting.
First album on vinyl: Michael Jackson's Thriller and Langhorne Slim (self-titled)
Favorite album: Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American / As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep
Favorite Enjoy The Ride or Enjoy The Toons release: TMNT 7" ! (I've got the Mikey Version)
Favorite album artwork: The band Anathallo had a CD with die-cut sleeve that made up flower cut outs, that blew my mind in 2005 or so. / Most and anything Sufjan Stevens, always very ellaborate and the art kind of tells a story itself.
